Casualty Review: Series 32, Episode 30

This episode should rightly be dedicated to the Robyn (Amanda Henderson) and Glen (Owain Arthur). Yet again, the exceptionally talented Amanda Mealing should also be highly commended on her direction of another gripping instalment which tugged at the heart strings and left me in tears!

Accident

We returned to the scene of the car accident which left us on a knife edge when Robyn and Glen's honeymoon finished before it started at the end of the previous week's episode. It looked rather touch and go for our favourite nurse when the damage from the collision was evident. It was so in character for Glen to be more concerned about his new bride than himself, too. Fortunately, Robyn's injuries appeared to be superficial, however, that was the only good news we were allowed to revel in.

Results

Back in the bosom of Holby, Glen was soon whipped through another scanner, with Robyn's downfall being that too much knowledge meant that she knew only too well what Glen's prognosis was going to be. The scan revealed that the Cancer was back and it was close to the brain stem.

Mission

So the mission was on to get Glen home, make him comfortable in his own surroundings and let him pass away peacefully with family around him. Glen had already declined Robyn's offer to call his mum, however the thought of going home appealed to him. The 'project' was thwarted at every turn though and peppered with Dylan's (Will Beck) misgivings.

Home is where the heart is...

Glen's fit while he and Robyn were trying to make their get away called time on the plan for I'm to go home. However, Robyn was moved by Dylan's words about Robyn and Charlotte being Dylan's home, as opposed to a building. Dylan was the last person I expected to hear such sentiments from, there is a heart in that chest then, not just a swinging brick.

Goodbye Glen

With Duffy (Cathy Shipton) and Charlie (Derek Thompson) bidding teary and heart-breaking farewells and Glen's side room set up to look as homely as possible, we awaited the inevitable. Charlotte's travel cot was set up next to her dad and Robyn held it together so bravely, it was a performance de force from Amanda Henderson and Owain Arthur deserves an award for portraying a believable character I'll remember for a long time to come.

Tune in to next week's Casualty, Saturday 7 April at 20:20 on BBC One.
