Holby City Review S20 E18- Headstrong.

To start another episode this week it's Fletch, we're given quick flashbacks of him coming into work and some of the patients that he's attended to already on his shift, while sat in the office he's got for himself on AAU, Abi comes in to talk to him about getting extra staff and the senior nurse position she's wanting to hire for, Donna's name is thrown into the mix but she tells him if Donna was to want it then she has to go through the application process just like everyone else.

Nicky is asleep in the on call room before she's woken up by her alarm, her phone showing that she's got a few messages and 15 missed calls from Meena trying to get in contact with her and ask where she is, suddenly she's out of bed and throwing up in the nearby bin, bit hungover are we Dr Kendrick?

Xavier is continuing his rotation on Keller and is dealing with a patient called Artie who is somewhat of a handful and a bit of difficult man to treat, he's come in with a hernia problem and it seems Dr Duval is the one who has been tasked with looking after him.

Poor Sheilagh is back in AAU suffering with an infection that's she's suddenly contracted, much to the dismay of the staff thinking that the old lady had finished her long stint in the hospital the last time they'd seen her.

Fletch, Abi and Serena have a discussion about Donna and both Fletch and Serena say about how big a part of the team Donna is, that if she had extra training or the right training she could be even better. Abi says she thinks Donna is rude and confrontational before leaving the ward, Serena then tells Fletch that he needs to sort these things out between Donna and Abi and if it means grovelling then that's what he needs to do, time to do a bit of smoothing over Fletch?

Nicky's problems seem far from over when she's looking at a letter regarding her debt, all £12,000+ of it, how is she going to work her way out of this one?

Serena finds Donna and tells her not to make an enemy of Abi and certainly not to mouth off at her either, that maybe she should be apologising to her instead, and after her apology to then apply for the senior staff nurses's job, can Donna swallow her pride enough to say sorry to Abi and then go for the job, or will her pride stop her.

Meena is the next to find said videos about Xavier and his past on tv adverts as a youngster, she voices her feelings about not really knowing anything about him, which she does have a point about, it seems not many know much about Mr Duval and due to this skeletons are appearing out of his closet, how much more does she not know about the man she's spending so much time with?

Hannah who is back on Darwin after collapsing at home, says she doesn't want her dad to know about her intersex diagnosis because she doesn't know how he'll react or what it'd do to their relationship, Nicky reassures her that he'll not find out, that it'll remain a secret for her.

Artie knows that Xavier was on the TV and in the now becoming infamous advert, Sacha has found out too and informs the young doctor that he liked the advert a lot before preceding to sing a line in front of the ward, Artie then carries on the theme of making fun of Xavier, this causes the nurses's on the ward to be unable to not laugh, who else has found out about the advert and what is Mr Duval going to do about it?

Abi throws out the suggestion to Fletch about him applying for the senior staff nurses' job, anything that would be good for him and would also mean that he might be more happier in his role and job, compared to how he seems at the moment as director of nursing and all that means and comes with it. This seems to make sense since Fletch has his kids to worry about and there's not much help for him at home now if at all.

Sheilagh takes Mikey in hand on the ward since he's appeared here on an inset day, telling the young lad to cut his dad some slack, that he's trying his best for her and all of them, this seems to strike a chord with Mikey and he nods his agreement whilst eating pizza, it seems the older lady is having an effect on him and he seems to like her too. It also turns out that Sheilagh is going to need to have an operation since she's found to have fluid outside of her lung, whilst discussing this Serena asks Fletch if everything is ok at home due to Mikey appearing at the hospital, Fletch says it is but she doesn't look convince, how long is Fletch going to be able to keep up this front and pretense before he has to admit how things are really going at home.

After their continual butting of heads, Xavier and Artie finally clash fully after he keeps talking about Xavier's starring role years ago, the young doctor and the patient coming literally face to face as they raise voices at each other, it looking like it could get physical at any moment, thankfully Henrik appears on the ward just in time and making Xavier go to his office, when they both go there they talk about the younger man being triggered by his patient, and that after Artie's surgery he can apologise to him because he's the patient and Xavier needs to start thinking about unloading onto a friend or someone he trusts so this kind of thing doesn't happen anymore.

Mikey having seen what he sees as Abi being mean to his 'old man' confronts Abi in the corridor a bit later on, telling the CEO in no uncertain terms to leave Fletch alone because he is trying his best, it seems Sheilagh's words did hit home with the young lad, also that he doesn't want to have to tell Abi the same thing again, that he'll be making sure she does as he says, by the CEO's reaction she seems to understand and realise what he's saying, but also that she likes the fact he was brazen enough to come and tell her such a thing.

With no end in sight with the bailiffs on her back, Xavier steps in and says to Nicky that he'll pay off her debt fully, but only if she quashes the gossip about him that's going around the hospital at the moment and that she gets Meena back on his side again and she doesn't tell Meena about their deal, she agrees after some quick thought and he wanders off with her debt letter, has the young doctor just done a literal deal with the devil?

Due to her conversation with Xavier, Nicky is late for Hannah's surgery that she promised the young girl she'd be there for, with said lateness annoying Abi due to how important an operation it is and Hannah going into VF on the table before they manage to bring her back, she sends Nicky out of the theatre saying they don't need her anymore, has Nicky blown her chance with Abi and part of her promising reputation too, with Abi's reaction it isn't looking good for the F1.

It's Abi and Fletch's turn to be in a lift together, the director of nursing forcing an emergency stop in order to talk to the CEO after Hannah's surgery, in which they find out a bit more about the other and Fletch tells Abi some home truths about how he tries his best, but when you've a family it's hard work and maybe Abi doesn't realise this.

Nicky comes clean to Hannah after her operation about her personal life being a mess and the debt is the reason she let her down, that she'll make it up to her if she gives her a chance to, could Xavier wiping her debt off mean the F1 is going to start sorting her life out now, or could this have just made things a whole lot more complicated for her, I think it's just got that bit worse if I had to call it.

It seems Meena has been charmed around yet again by Xavier as they leave the hospital together, but how long will it last this time before his mask slips and something else from his past appears in his present.

The last action of the episode is between Fletch and Abi and them having a brief, or trying to have a conversation in the corridor, Mikey is just wanting to go home with his dad at this stage he's had quite the day has the young Fletchling. With them unable to discuss the senior nurses' job anymore that day Fletch heads down the corridor to his son and starts making his way out, probably unaware that Abi is stood watching them leave, could she now have feelings for the man himself after they've become that be more acquainted today and if so what could this mean for himself and Jac when she returns, could we have quite the Holby love triangle on our hands here....??
