Former EastEnders actress Belinda Owusu is joining the cast of Holby City, alongside Doctors actress Salma Hoque.
Owusu will be playing Nicky McKendrick, a new F1 at Holby who's anxious about starting her role as a junior doctor. Hoque will be playing Meena Chowdhury.
The pair will be introduced as friends from school but will immediately realise that the job is tougher than they ever anticipated – especially under the watchful glare of the intimidating Jac Naylor.
Nicky is from a struggling working class background while Meena’s upbringing was more privileged but both are united in their terror that they will fail their rotation and make a mess of their big new responsibilities. And Jac is immediately harbouring doubts that they can cope.
As Nicky and Meena struggle to keep up with the pace and impress their bosses, their own friendship comes under scrutiny and it remains to be seen whether they can keep things together as they may be forced to compete to prove themselves.
Some viewers may recognize Salma Hoque, as she appeared in Holby City as an patient back in series 15 (2012) playing Aisha Bose for 4 episodes.
