Alex Walkinshaw moves from Casualty to Holby City

Alex Walkinshaw today announced that he will be leaving the world’s longest-running medical drama Casualty - but won’t be going too far, as he is joining the cast of popular sister drama Holby City.

In a rare cross-over between the medical dramas, viewers will see Alex’s cheeky chappy character, nurse Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher, swap the emergency department (ED) for the wards of Holby City.

Talking about the move, Alex teased that fans will see Fletch’s gambling spiral out of control and the storyline will play out in such a way that Fletch has to leave Casualty but then gets offered another job in the hospital – taking him into Holby City.

Regarding his time on Casualty, Alex says: “I’ve had a great time in Wales and everyone I’ve worked with on Casualty has been superb.”

Upon Fletch’s arrival at Holby City, things start off smoothly for him on AAU (Acute Assessment Unit) until the charismatic nurse comes face to face with a blast from his past - Director of Nursing, Colette Sheward. The unresolved issues between these two head-strong characters will mean Fletch’s transition is far from seamless!

Oliver Kent, Executive Producer of Casualty & Holby City, says: "We at Holby City were thinking of a new male nurse to play alongside Jonny and lock horns with Colette. When Alex suggested he might get in the lift and come upstairs to Holby City, we accepted like a shot. Alex as Fletch has been a wonderful asset to Casualty and I am very excited about him bringing his unique blend of warmth and blokiness to the wards."
